Glossary
The terms these pages use, in the sense the platform uses them. Metric and dimension definitions specific to your data — what counts as an impression, how reach is calculated — belong to your client documentation, not here.
Access
Dataset — one body of data you can query. Everything on screen follows the dataset in view: its dimensions, metrics, reports and audiences. Accounts may have several.
User group — the set of users you belong to. It's what your access is attached to. If you belong to several, Switch user group in the account menu changes which one you are using.
Rule set — the configuration a group carries: which datasets, views, metrics and dimensions its members get, and which filter rules apply. Managed by your administrator.
Permission filter — a filter applied by a rule set that users cannot lift. A hard boundary on the data a group can see.
Global filter — a default filter applied by a rule set that users can change in the filter picker. A convenience, not a boundary.
View — any page a group has access to — a report, a report group or a tool.
Querying
Breakdown — the dimension a query's results are split by. One per query, and the one thing Research can't run without.
Filter — a condition that narrows the data before it's counted. Filters on different dimensions combine, so each one narrows the result further.
Audience — a saved definition of who to count. Predefined audiences come from Audience manager; a custom audience is built for one query; an imported audience is supplied as a list of identifiers.
Interval — how results are split over time: Total for one figure, or buckets such as Hour, Day, Week or Month. Which are available depends on the date range.
Bookmark — a saved query in Research or Exporter. It stores the question, not the answer, so a bookmark with a rolling date range moves with time.
Index — Ranker's measure of concentration. 100 means an audience is present in a cell exactly as expected; above 100 over-indexes, below under-indexes.
Capacity — the opportunities available to serve an ad. Reach — the number of unique people reached.
Reports
Report — a prepared dashboard built for your team, refreshed automatically rather than rebuilt by hand.
Widget — one element of a report: a headline tile, a table or a chart. Tables and charts have their own menu, including Open in Research.
Export — a data file produced in the background by Exporter, collected from its History tab or from Exports in the account menu.
Campaigns
Campaign — a booked piece of advertising activity with a flight, a budget and a goal.
Line item / placement — a unit of delivery within a campaign: its own targeting, budget, schedule and creatives. Which term your account uses is part of its setup.
Flight — the dates a campaign or line item runs between.
Pacing — how delivery is spread across the flight, and how it's tracking against that plan.
OSI — on-schedule indicator: whether delivery is keeping pace with elapsed flight. FFDR — forecast final delivery rate: the share of the goal expected by the end date. Exact formulas are dataset-specific — see your client documentation.
Inventory availability — the booking form's check of whether the targeted inventory can deliver a line item's goal within its flight.
Blackout period — a date range within a flight when a line item must not air.
